Raymond A. Wasilewski Jr., born on January 19, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 4, 2026. He lived a life filled with honor and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond A. and Helen Baloga Wasilewski Sr., who undoubtedly instilled in him the values that he carried throughout his life.
A proud veteran, Raymond immediately joined the United States Air Force after graduating in 1966 from Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre. He served his country valiantly during the Vietnam War, embodying the values of courage and commitment.
Raymond's professional career was marked by his role as a Right-of-Way Specialist for the Transco/Williams Natural Gas Pipeline. He took great pride in his work and cherished the contributions he made in this capacity, reflecting his strong work ethic and dedication to his profession.
Beyond his career, Raymond was known for his meticulous care of his home and the homes of others. An expert problem fixer, he maintained the landscapes of his and his family's properties, always ready to tackle a task himself and make the most of every dollar. His personality was dynamic, and he enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him joy, including Pizza Fridays, spending time outdoors, camping, vacations, and trips to the casino. Many will fondly remember him relaxing with a cold beer while watching Giants football games, enjoying life's simple pleasures. Raymond was a lifelong dog lover, he adored Radar and Barney and always brought treats for every dog he visited.
Raymond's community involvement extended into volunteering, notably with the United Way on their national bike rides, an accomplishment he was particularly proud of.
He is survived by his loving family, which includes his daughter Michele Missal and her husband Donald of Bear Creek Township, daughter Doreen Ashton of Bear Creek Township, son Raymond A. Wasilewski III and his wife Shannon of Bear Creek Township, and son Ryan Wasilewski of Wilkes-Barre Township. He was also cherished by his grandchildren, River and Donald Missal, Brian Ashton, and Teagan Wasilewski, who lovingly referred to him as "Barney."
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Raymond's life in a series of services. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, located at 21 N Meade St, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702. A mass will follow on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Our Lady of Hope Parish, starting at 10:00 AM. Raymond will then be laid to rest during a burial service with Military Honors at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Bear Creek, PA.
Raymond A. Wasilewski Jr. will be deeply missed. His stories, sense of humor, and unmistakable presence will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in the peace, love, and mercy of Jesus.
