Above all else, Madelene loved her family.

Madelene Bryce Schmidt, 86, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at Allied Hospice in Wilkes-Barre. She was born on June 11, 1940, to George and Roberta Bryce in Wilkes-Barre and was proud to call it home for all 86 years of her life.

Madelene was a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre and was proud of her roots. She was a member of St. Nicholas–St. Mary's Parish, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

Above all else, Madelene loved her family. She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Hidalgo and Madelene Schmidt, her sons, George Schmidt and Ronald Schmidt, her daughters-in-law, Karen and Beth, her son-in-law, John, her sister, Barbara Elmy, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who all brought her endless joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Schmidt Sr., her son, John Schmidt Jr., her daughter, Mary Schmidt, and her sisters.

Anyone who knew Madelene knew how deeply she loved and adored her husband, John.

Anyone who knew Madelene knew how deeply she loved and adored her husband, John, and how much she missed him after his passing. She also loved her cats, Spanky and Star, and all things Betty Boop. She loved to walk, whether she was visiting her sisters, walking to work in her younger years, heading to the store, or simply taking a walk because she enjoyed it.

Madelene will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to be cherished by everyone who knew and loved her.

In accordance with her wishes, the family will celebrate her life privately.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Wolanin, Dr. Mitchell, and her home health nurse, Mary Ellen, for the compassionate care they provided.
