Madelene Bryce Schmidt, born June 11, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026 at Allied Hospice in Wilkes-Barre. Throughout her 86 years, Madelene was a dedicated member of the Wilkes-Barre community, cherished by family and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and steadfast presence.

A lifelong resident, Madelene was proud of her roots and deep connections in Wilkes-Barre. She was a devoted and active member of St. Nicholas-St. Mary’s Parish, where she found both solace and fellowship throughout her life.

Madelene’s life was marked by the love and devotion she gave her family. She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Hidalgo, Madelene Schmidt and her sons, George Schmidt and Ronald Schmidt. She also leaves behind daughters-in-law Karen and Beth, and son in law John, her beloved sister Barbara Elmy, and a large family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who were a constant source of pride and joy for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Schmidt Sr. her son John Schmidt,Jr. her daughter Mary Schmidt, and her sisters. The memory of those who have gone before her, and the bonds that sustained them as a family, will forever be cherished by those who remain.

Faith, family, and a gentle spirit defined Madelene’s life. Her enduring love will remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind, who will treasure her legacy and the many happy memories shared over the years.

In accordance with her wishes, Madelene’s family will celebrate her life privately. They honor her request for privacy, finding comfort in each other and in the many ways she enriched their lives.

Madelene Bryce Schmidt’s loving devotion and kind presence will be profoundly missed, yet fondly remembered by all who knew her. The family would like to thank, Dr. Wolanin, Dr. Mitchell & her home health nurse MaryEllen.
