It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt respect that we announce the passing of Harold Lewis Ehret, affectionately known as Harry, who departed this life on April 2, 2026, at Danville Geisinger Medical Center after a brief illness. Born on December 24, 1964, in Wilkes Barre, Harry’s life was a luminous testament to unwavering dedication and service to his community.
Harry devoted his entire career to the noble cause of protecting and aiding the public. His journey began as a volunteer firefighter, where he first embraced the call to serve. He then distinguished himself as a paramedic with Medic 301 in the Southeast region, administering urgent care with skill and compassion. Subsequently, Harry joined the Rice Township Police Department as a patrolman, progressing earnestly through the ranks to become sergeant. Culminating his distinguished law enforcement vocation, he realized his lifelong aspiration by serving as Chief of Police for five honorable years. His visionary leadership included the establishment of the K-9 Unit, a milestone achievement that reflects his commitment to enhancing public safety and the department’s capabilities.
Beyond his professional achievements, Harry was known for his remarkable personality—a man whose quick wit and ability to craft a joke in any circumstance brought light and laughter even in the darkest moments. A genuine friend to many, he was also an avid motorcycle rider, who found profound happiness in spending weekends smoking meats and cheeses on his back deck. Equally treasured were the moments he shared engaging in clay bird shooting with his son, Brenden, an activity that deepened their bond and spoke to his love for family and fellowship.
Harry’s legacy is one of great respect and enduring love. He was deeply cherished not only by those who knew him in his professional capacity but also by all who had the privilege of calling him family or friend. He leaves behind his son Brenden Ehret and daughter-in-law Caitlin Ehret, step-daughter Morgan Melovitz, brother Thomas Ehret and sister-in-law Kathy Ehret of Virginia, sister Melissa Poremba and brother-in-law Gary Poremba of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews who will all carry forward his memory with fondness and admiration.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harold J. Ehret and Sally Ehret, whose memories live on in the hearts of all who knew this remarkable man.
A graveside service to honor Harry’s life will be held on April 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, located at 4115 Memorial Hwy, Dallas, PA 18612. The gathering will provide a moment for family, friends, and community members to reflect on a legacy defined by sacrifice, leadership, and a spirit of generosity.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have offered support during this sudden and difficult time. As a fitting tribute to Harry’s enduring influence and dedication, those wishing to honor his memory are invited to contribute to the Rice Township Police Department’s K-9 Unit, 3000 Church Road, Mountain Top, PA 18707, a cause dear to his heart.
Harry Lewis Ehret’s life was a beacon of selflessness and joy. Though he has passed from our sight, his spirit will forever inspire those who value courage, kindness, and the simple power of a well-told joke. He was very loved and will continue to be deeply loved by all who had the honor to know him.
