Ernest T. Jendrzejewski, known affectionately as Ernie, passed away on September 9, 2025, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 22, 1947, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he dedicated his life to serving his community as the third-generation operator of the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home in Wilkes-Barre, a testament to his family's enduring commitment to compassionate care.
Ernie graduated from Marymount High School in 1965 and continued his education at King's College. He received his degree from Huston-Tillotson University in 1969 and graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute in New York in 1970, preparing him for a lifelong career in funeral service.
A devoted member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Ernie was known for his warm spirit and deep empathy towards others. His passion extended beyond his career; he cherished time spent with his family, particularly enjoying moments filled with laughter, including playing poker with loved ones. Ernie was not only a devoted husband, celebrating 54 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, the former Monica Katsak, but also a proud father and grandfather, reveling in the joy of family gatherings.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Monica; sons Stephen of Wilkes-Barre, Joseph and his wife, Kerin of Swoyersville, Ernest and his companion, Kim Rotell of West Pittston, William and his wife, Tess of Shavertown, and Anthony of Wilkes-Barre Township; daughter Judy Partington and her husband, Richard of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Brianne, Joseph, Haley, Emily, Lauren, and Lily Jendrzejewski, Rosalyn, Richard, and Sydney Partington, Dominic and Roman Bartell, Sierra and Isla Maris Jendrzejewski, and Taden V. Jendrzejewski. He also left behind two great-grandchildren, Jackson Mark and Greysen Edward-Michael; brother Joseph J. Jendrzejewski and his wife, Susan Stetz-Jendrzejewski of Nanticoke; sister Carolyn Jendrzejewski of Wilkes-Barre; numerous nieces and nephews; and aunt Alice Jendrejewski of Moosic, PA.
Ernie held a number of interests outside of work, including a love for harness horse racing and trips spent in Florida. He was an avid sports fan, supporting the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He especially appreciated breakfast, a small but telling detail of his fondness for routine and comfort.
He is predeceased by his parents Ernest S. and Clara (Sikora) Jendrzejewski, sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Hank Thompson, and his nephew, Alan Thompson.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Jendrzejewski Funeral Home in Wilkes-Barre on September 14, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 15, 2025, at Our Lady of Hope Parish, at 10:30 AM, the Reverend John S. Terry, Pastor will be Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming.
The members of the Luzerne County Funeral Directors Association Inc. will assemble at 6:00 PM for a necrology service in honor of Ernest.
Ernest T. Jendrzejewski's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his work and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
