Dorothy A. Marley, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on February 19, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on January 6, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Aneila Huba Draus.
Dorothy significant contributions to her community through her employment in the garment industry in the Wilkes-Barre area. She was particularly noted for her craftsmanship in creating specialized horse jockey riding boots at Gayer's Boot and Sadlery in Maryland. Additionally, her expertise was valued at Sprague Electronics in Laurel, MD, where she made lasting impacts through her dedication and skill.
An alumna of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, Dorothy remained intellectually engaged throughout her life. She was an avid player of puzzles and card games, finding joy in crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and Pinochle. Her passion for reading further enriched her life, and she cherished sharing these interests with those around her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Matthew, who passed away on July 16, 2009; grandson, Joseph Marley; as well as her brothers Jacob and Charles Draus and her sisters Alice Gambinski, Margaret Kimsal, Sophie Lipko, and Josephine Halecki.
She leaves behind her son, Donald Marley and his wife, Robin of Romney, WV; her daughter, Darlene Marley of West Palm Beach, FL; her granddaughter, Kara Swingle and her husband, Steve of Keyser, WV; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Cali Kobazair, Sydney Swingle, Jackson Swingle, and Ryan Swingle.
Dorothy's life will be celebrated with a funeral service on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, beginning at 11:00 AM. Dorothy A. Marley is remembered for her warmth, creativity, and unwavering love for her family, leaving a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
